Before you begin

This assessment tests decisions, not memorisation. Several options in each station are plausible and wrong for reasons that matter on a job site.

Two modes

  • Practice — untimed and coached. Every answer explains itself and mistakes are recoverable. Start here.
  • Assessment — 10 minutes, scored, no coaching until the end. Pass mark is 80%. Critical safety errors end the attempt immediately.
This is training material, not a substitute for your written programme. Follow your employer's procedures, your site-specific plan, and the direction of a qualified person. Regulatory references are provided for orientation — verify the standard and jurisdiction that apply to your work.

Scenario briefing

Monday, 06:30. Interior renovation of a 1970s office building — second floor, 12,000 sq ft. Your scope: saw-cut 340 linear feet of slab for new plumbing and electrical runs, core 40 penetrations, and grind down two structural columns for new finishes.

You are the competent person for silica on this project. Nine stations covering task identification, Table 1 selection, control verification, respiratory protection, housekeeping, medical surveillance triggers, and documentation. Critical errors end the assessment immediately.

Your crew

  • MARCHETTIConcrete cutting lead. Twenty years. Fast, skilled, impatient with setup.
  • PARKGrinder operator. Six years. Full beard.
  • TORRESLabourer. First season. Assigned cleanup and vacuum tending.
  • BOWENGC superintendent. Wants the floor clear by Thursday.

Competency record

This record evidences a scored practical exercise. It is not a competency determination and does not establish competent-person or qualified-person status — that determination rests with the employer, supported by your written programme, equipment-specific instruction, and field supervision.
